Have been to Rum Cay many times. Enjoyed visiting with Deloris, Ted Bain, George Gator, Hermie Bain,Bobby Little, Kathy and Bill, Dave Melville, and the rest. Always enjoyed getting crawfish and conch out of the salt pond and swimming at Mermaid's Pond. Last visit was in Feb., 2006 when my parents came along. Have wondered if many houses have been built west of town on the new roads they were just cutting in when we were there. I will be back again someday, cant resist this island.

I hope this is not a duplicate message. I was told my session had timed out so I am repeating what I have said.
It has been a pleasure to visit this site.
I spent one week at the Rum Cay Diving Club in each of two years; 1981 and 1982. I was there with about 15 members of our club, the Devonian Divers of Canada.
I have been just sorting through my 600 or so slides of our trips and have rekindled a lot of memories. I have even found slides of the interior of Kay's Bar. From what I have found on the Internet, the place has not changed all that much. Do they still have the rusty musical saw and the Javex bottle bongos in the corner?
I was sorry to discover that the RCDC failed to succeed for more than a few years. But I was happy the hear that the government has named the cross island highway after David Melville. He was a gentleman who got involved with his guests and made them feel at home.
Rum Cay in 1982 was the last Caribbean adventure that my wife and I had. As a matter of fact, it was the last serious diving I have done. If I were younger, I would love to visit the island again. Between San Salvador to the north and Rum Cay, my wife and I spent five wonderful summers in the Bahamas. smile

My name is Kolt Jones and I have many ties to RUM CAY. I went to prep school with Ann Strachan, and we were both there because of the amazing generosity of one man, David B. Melville. David and my parents Lois and Aubrey Jones started Rum Cay Diving Club after several trips there and David's brilliant vision, along with tremendous help from Clement, who was the do-it-all talent and chef for the club's operations and although the club had some difficulties, David's generosity was legendary and I hope that the new developers name something grand after him for it was his dream to see a club do well and just as importantly, for the residents of Rum Cay to get to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
His love of the people and Rum Cay will never fade...
I think that Rum Cay is a Jewel. It should be treated as such. I hope the developers have success but employ every islander for that is their home too. I would love to go back to Rum Cay with my children and have them meet the nicest, most genuine people that still live there. koltzjones@hotmail.com

I can't help but wonder if the Delores Wilson mentioned on this website is the bloved grandmother of my college roomate Natasha. Although I only met "Mommie" (as she was called by Tasha) once, she had an awesome effect on me too. It would be lovely to regain contact with my Rum Cay family from my college days.

Anyone out there who remembers me?

I have family in Rum Cay and think anyone purchasing property there ought to verify and re-verify deeds thers a major developer in court right now and they're still selling..maybe someone ought to shut down the web-sites ot gives all the others a bad rap

The good news is that all of the court cases are resolved, and any new sales are legit. Title insurance is always a wise move for any purchase.

I just want to give a big hug to Dolores Wilson and any of those who were on Rum Cay in 1976...with Garry and Connie Thomas and students. I still think of Kay's Bar and all the good folks of that period. Dolores...if you read this I have a great photo of Cop Bain.
Unspoiled by promoters. But if all is well that is what counts. Love Henry ("Lord Henry"...Mr. Gaitor.) smile smile

I was looking for information on the HMS Conqueror and came upon your page.
My Gr/Grandfather was a sailor on board in 1861 he did return to England in time to be married in 1872.
How I would love to pay a visit.
We have done many trips abroad but Rum Cay seems so far away.
I love the pictures.
Thanks Wyn.
